Ed's Blip

Torquay Marina

This is the first of a couple of back-blips to cover the long weekend I've just had in Torquay withy friends Matthew and Iain. It was Matthew's idea. He knows the place well as his dad lives in nearby Teignmouth. Matthew and Iain got an early start driving down from Leeds for a rendezvous at Exeter airport. I flew down from Glasgow in a smallish proppeller-powered Flybe airplane.

We drove a scenic route down to Torquay with a stop in Teignmouth along the way before checking into our hotel, 'The Cimon'. We were all in the same room, a family room, which worked out good value.

We then strolled down to the harbour for a very late lunch in the sunshine. The weather forecast had been for lots of rain so we were pleasantly surprised by the good weather.

Afterwards it was back to the hotel to get ready to go out for the evening. We tried a different route down to the sea front and came across a place with a beer garden offering fantastic views down over the bay. We had a couple of pints and took in the mellow atmosphere as the sun got low in the sky.

After that we walked along the promenade towards the pier and another stop for a drink. Managed to take some good photos. We perhaps would have wandered longer if it had not been for the cool breeze and our lack of coats.

We headed for an Italian resatuarant for dinner that I had spotted earlier, called 'Prezzo'. It was in an old bank, with an impressive interior. The food was great too.

We were the last out of the restaurant and ended up in Wetherspoons afterwards, which wasn't actually all that bad for a Wetherspoons as the music was good. We felt obliged to end the night getting down on the dance floor in honour of Michael Jackson.
