Teignmouth-Sheldon Ferry

We got up as late as possible to be down for our full English breakfast, served until 10. We sat outside on the terrace near the swimming pool. The fresh air helped to revive us a bit, but we had a long wait before our food arrived to make us feel alive again after last night's excess.

After breakfast we made our way down to the train station to catch a train to Teignmouth. It was a very pleasant journey. Teignmouth has a very different character to Torquay. It is very much a family seaside resort whilst Torquay has an abundance of bars and restaurants. We walked along the promenade and enjoyed the sun which was once again unexpected. The tide was out and the beach was full of young kids building sandcastles or going for paddle.

Matthew had organized the trip. He knows Teignmouth very well as his Dad and Grandma live there. He took us to see his Grandma who is 93 and lives in a very nice sheltered flat close to sea front. We had a cup of tea whilst Gran presented Matthew with the size 16 socks she had knitted him.

After that we got the ferry across the river to a Sheldon in order to have a pint in 'The Ness', a pub with great views over the whole of Teignmouth. Then it was back across the river to meet Matthew's Dad in his favourite pub, The Ship Inn. Grandma also joined us.

After a couple of pints we headed along the seafront and up to Matthew's dad's house, dropping Grandma off along the way. It was a beautiful evening, we were very lucky. At the house we met Carole who had prepared a lovely dinner of Spaghetti Bolognese for us. Carole refuses to have her photo taken so there are none of us at dinner. After dinner we sat outside on the terrace, drinking wine and chatting until about 11 when we got a taxi back to the hotel in Torquay.
