The Tornado steaming through Torquay
The weather was not so good today, and it rained constantly in the afternoon. We started off with another good full English breakfast, then walked down the hill to Torquay station in order to watch a steam train called 'The Tornado' go through. We arrived a bit early so decided to go for a walk and return in good time to see it. At least that was the plan. This train had the brass neck to be early. We heard the whistle of the train whilst walking up the road to the station and this picture is all I got, taken from the station car park. We found it quite amusing though.
After that we had a look at Anthony Gormley's 'Field for the British Isles' exhibition in Torre Abbey. Forty thousand clay figurines around six inches tall fill the floor of the abbey, all looking towards the viewer like a crowd at a rock concert. Quite spooky.
Next came the discovery, back at the hotel car park that Matthew's car wouldn't start. Help was required from folk inside the hotel to scrum it up the drive to make a hill start possible, which thankfully worked. Then came the exhaust problem. It was necessary to tie the exhaust pipe up with some string in order to get it to Kwik Fit in Exeter. Thankfully the bus station was close by for me to get to the airport. I was home by 7:30.
