In Rememberance
A few years ago, a statue was put up in the ferry in memory of the men who died whilst building the Forth Rail Bridge......I have always wanted to capture the scene but never got round to it - today I rectified that issue.
The bridge was built over 100 years ago and has stood the test of time - many people come to the ferry to see the structure which links Lothian to the Kingdom of Fife and yet as with any great project there is (and in this case was) a sacrifice to be paid - either time, money or at worst lives
Initially, it was recorded that 57 lives were lost; however, after extensive research by local historians, the figure was increased to 63.
It has made me stop and think that often we all undertake our own projects and there is a certain amount of sacrifice that has to be put into it in order to achieve the outcome that we are looking for (hopefully not the ultimate one!!).
But very often it is worth it - the "blood sweat and tears" - for the outcome can very often last a lifetime and even a legacy that may be passed onto others.
So whatever project you are involved in....don't give up - keep going because one day I'm sure it will be worth it......
.....and for those interested in finding out just what it took to build the structure, I can recommend this great book - The Briggers
