The story of the Day

A good old fashioned day trip to France which used to be a regular event in the past to buy wine and cheese and enjoy a day in France. Somewhat curtailed nowadays owing to the low value of the £ against the Euro and the relative absence of cheap ferry crossing offers in newspapers . Back in the day when a Euro was worth 67p bargains were to be had, now it's around 84p the savings are not the same.

But a £29 day return offer from DFDS between Dover and Dunquerke seemed to fit the bill. These 4 shots sum up the day. The first is leaving Dover Harbour at about 10.00am when the sky was filled with flakey cloud and the light interesting. The second is on the beach at Zuydcoote walking towards Bray-Dunes to the east of Dunquerke on a walk which took us through the Reserve Naturelle Dune Marchand. The third is Dunquerke "Town Hall" which looks very fine and the final shot is as we departed from Dunquerke to return to Dover.

We had an excellent picnic on the beach at Zuydcoote and a very enjoyable meal in the Grand Morien in Dunquerke and a bit of a browse around the hypermarket. I always love the fruit and veg section and the fish section of French supermarkets, so much better than our own. (Not to mention the outdoor markets in France which are brilliant)
