Turkish Coffee
It was D's Day Off yesterday so we went out for "linner" (half way between lunch and dinner) at a local, family owned Lebanese/Greek Restaurant called El Wadi. We had Kibbeh for starters. This is a deep fried, oval shaped mix of ground beef and cracked-wheat, stuffed with ground beef, minced onions, pine nuts, spices and pomegranate molasses. Lovely! Then I enjoyed their Shish Tawouk - a deliciously spiced Lebanese chicken dish with a garlic sauce and D had a Greek Gyro (in England we used to call it Shawarma). We were so busy enjoying these delicacies that I didn't think to photograph until the end when were were served our Turkish coffee. This is an intriguing and special method of making coffee that goes back to the 16th century, predating almost every other currently-used method. The coffee is very finely ground and then boiled several times in a special pot called an "ibrik". We don't serve this kind of coffee yet at BG but D says we will one day. It's "as dark as hell, as strong as death and as sweet as love".
