Mackintosh and Mistry
Taken outside the Hunterian Art Gallery at the University of Glasgow. I felt the need for another CRM fix. This is the Mackintosh House, with the re-assembled interiors of 78 Southpark Avenue, with home of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald. There are now free guided tours every half an hour. The guide was excellent, however the top level wasn't open today due to staff shortage. I really did want a few minutes in front of the Derngate bedroom setting .... for another day.
During my time studying here, the Art Gallery and House were under construction. There was much joking and comment about a doorway at least ten feet high off the ground. Why was it built like that? Well, take the tour, and you'll find out why!
The sculpture is by Dhruva Mistry, "Diagram of an Object" 1990, in bronze. A Glasgow 1990 commission when Glasgow was European City of Culture. I met Dhruva on several occasions when he was working on his "Reclining Woman" for the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988.
Backblipped yesterday's Let Glasgow Flourish entry, v. late back last night.
