Lead climb, Gwern Gof Isaf
This is my view of Zak as I belay while he leads his first full "trad" climb, where it's up to him to place protection gear (e.g. friends) in/on the rock as he goes up, to catch him if he falls. He did a great job. We had a really lovely day, the time simply flew.
We were at Craig Caseg Fraith Isaf, a small crag very close to Gwern Gof Isaf, the campsite that he and I have used regularly over the past eight years of our boys' mountain adventures. The campsite has been basecamp for loads of happy memories of long walks from here on the nearby hills, the Glyderau and Carneddau, but this is the first time we'd ever thought to actually climb the nearest crag, three minutes from the farmhouse. It'd been under our nose all these years, but I guess our eyes had always been fixed on the mountain summits.
