Day 10 Road Trip
Today we headed for the Olympic Village and spent a good part of the day enjoying that mountain facility. We took the tour and saw the ski-jump slopes from bottom and top and also the launch point for the skeleton, luge and bob-sled. Saw the school... the school the student athletes attend when they are not training. (The school is not impressive)
Every Saturday the Aerial Ski Team puts on a 45 minute show. This image is of one of their last 2 jumps in which they do a group jump. It is 80 degrees outside and they are skiing! They ski down a wet plastic grass surface, jump, twist and turn and land in a gorgeous 75,000 gallon pool. Oh that pool looked so good! The jumps you see in the distance are tiny jumps they use to teach youngsters. They said the best age to learn ski jumping is at 6 or 7 years! Because you are not yet fat and you are fearless!
This was not the best image of the day, but it is the most unusual image. I hope you get a chance to visit this place - it was a great way to spend about 4 hours.
The training facility is year-round and the kids on the team go to school right there. They also have camps for non-team members. From a day to what ever you want to do, they have the stuff and the staff to put you through your limits.
Of course we walked the museum and saw exhibits form the 2002 Olympics.
We also did their smaller zip-line. That was okay but not as exciting as I thought it would be.
After, we drove up to the Stein Ericson Lodge and had drinks and a snack on the patio. Wow whoohooo.! what a phenomenal place! And the whole area - I had no idea all those homes and lodges were up there! Mucho Moola on that mountain.
