Robin Hood's Bay

After a lovely peaceful night we had a special holiday breakfast of croissants and coffee and then set out to walk to Robin Hood's Bay along the Cleveland Way and the beach. The Cleveland Way starts from our holiday house so we were soon on the way. The tide was out so we headed down to the beach and did at least half of the walk on the seashore. It was a lovely morning - bright and sunny with beautiful blue skies.

There was a group of morris dancers in Robin Hood's bay. We watched for a while before heading back along the beach, fossil hunting on the way and peering into rock pools. We decided to go past the headland and try and get up the cliff past Ravenscar. There were supposed to be a couple of paths but we ended up hot, sticky and beating our way through head high bracken to reach the top. We did glimpse an adder diving for cover but got scratched and bloody from the brambles and spiny thorns. After a steep climb, and after scaring a group of roe deer, we made it back to the path. Quite a relief to make it back to the top. As we headed back to the house through the golf course we spotted more deer on the greens cropping the grass.

A great first day away.
