Stained Glass on a Budget
Last weekend, as we waited for the Home Depot Paint Person to mix our dining room paint, the WTN/AJ and I wandered into the window covering aisle.
Never wander in Home Depot...
We found a bin with several different types of self-adhesive films for glass. The house is surrounded by trees and well shaded in the summer. Good for temperature, not so good for brightness. We tried reducing the light loss by only hanging curtains on the lower half - not so great. This film seemed to be the answer.
We spent Saturday installing two types of film on the living room windows (this image), as well as two small windows on the doors of the dining room leading to the back deck. I know I'm not going to receive any SWAG for an endorsement from the film company or Home Depot, but this stuff is amazing to work with, and the results are exactly the mix of privacy/light infiltration we wanted!!
There's an old 9 pane window in the front hall that is next up for a little refurbishing, after some paint stripping...
