Sulphur fields!

Akueyri.

Overnight we sailed within the Arctic Circle at 66deg 33’44” north of the equator! I only know that because we were given a certificate to prove it!!

This town is the second largest in Iceland after Reykjavik, has a population of about 18,000 and is 62 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

Today we did a trip which included visits to Godafoss, Lake Myvatn, the pseudo-craters at Skutustadir, lava landscape at Dimmuborgir and the geothermal field at Namaskard. A very varied and unusual collection of landscapes!!

There were very few animals to be seen, but the cows near to where we stopped for lunch demonstrated the old adage “the grass is always greener tastier on the other side!!

This collie was on a mission, no idea where he was heading but he wandered along the path between the visitors, totally ignoring everyone.

Beautiful scenery as we sailed out of the fiord. The weather seems to improve in the evening as we clear land!!
