A Quick Fix
This is an unplanned project that needed to be done before our trip.
A few days ago we had a torrential downpour during the night. The nylon cover for the deck furniture is a huge bag that drapes over the top of the chairs and table. Naturally, it sagged in the middle, and the depressed area collected enough water to create a small pond on top of the table. It wasn't easy to remove the water, and I don't want to have to do it again.
This was a simple quick fix that will need to be beefed up before the usual winter storms try to blow everything away. I finished it this morning and it's already had a bit of a test -- the weather changed suddenly in the afternoon, bringing a little rain and fairly strong gusty winds. Mother Nature is teasing me. So far, so good -- my makeshift tent is staying in place.
There was another distraction from packing this morning. Two young male goldfinches crashed into the glass door onto the deck. They were stunned, and for a while Cynthia and I thought they were dying, but we resisted the temptation to pick them up. They were very cute -- see C's blip. Eventually they recovered and simultaneously took off and flew away. C was lucky enough to witness their vertical takeoffs.
