Crash landing

Out for a long walk this morning around the village, looking for plants in flower for my blog, and just...looking. I had in mind a self-set challenge to find a photo of a wild carrot, or Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota) since I'd seen several on Blip recently and they seemed an endlessly interesting and variable subject: see here and here, for example.
Lots of possibilities, but this intrigued me the most. Just how did the grasshopper get there, and what is it doing?
