Yesterday's mystery object...

...is? Answers on a postcard, please!

It's the item we brought home from Melrose yesterday - apparently the shop owner bought it in France. It has that certain 'je ne sais quoi' and we like it! Nothing about it is quite symmetrical, and the wooden spindles look to have been hand turned.

Could possibly be one of those old-fashioned roller-towel holders, but doesn't seem nearly robust enough. We shall probably hang tea towels on it.
