Indian Pipes ...

... on Bunker Hill Road, heading home to Northampton after our week in our idyllic Tamworth retreat. The weather treated us unusually well.

Indian pipes (Monotropa uniflora) are not a fungus, but can have a relationship with fungi--check out the link. In any case, they do not have chlorophyll, which makes plants green. These were typical in size--about 5 inches tall--they were not too far from the boulders I blipped two days ago. As I noted then, the map does not show Bunker Hill road going through to the south, but it does--and we followed it to Route 25 and on south to I-93 and eventually home. We will miss it.
