Journey's End
You may not know this, but my journal's name comes from a comic book called "Journey Into Mystery." Around a year ago, I walked into my local comic shop for the first time in nearly half a decade, having finally recovered from the intense issues I was having with the direction of Marvel. Was I looking to get back into comics? Not necessarily. I went on a whim; I found that I plenty of passion left for comic books when I (again, on a whim) nabbed this issue of JiM.
I didn't have a firm grasp on what was going on, but that didn't matter. It was inventive and interesting and the central character, a child Loki, was incredibly captivating. I was hooked, and gradually began to buy more comics. I also got all caught up on JiM and basically found it to be one of the best things I'd read since Sandman.
Ten issues ago it came under new management, as it were, and shifted in focus to the Lady Sif. It retained much of its charm and wit, and added a kickass female lead into the mix, which we desperately need more of in comics. I loved this new incarnation of JiM, but evidently not enough people shared my enthusiasm; the book was cancelled, and today was released its last issue. I'm of course sad to see a great book end, but I'm also very glad I picked it up -- I've found a whole host of great stories that I wouldn't have read otherwise because of Journey Into Mystery, and for that I'm very grateful.
Until the next adventure ....
