Drovers Arms.

Originally this was a real inn on an ancient drove road. Apparently the War Office purchased it at the beginning of the Second World War for use as a training ground and artillery range.

V and I visited it today whilst we were searching for Red Kites. I had last seen it when I cycled over the pass in the hot summer of 1976. It was in a state of dilapidation then although I understand that the outer shell was restored in 1994. Today it was obviously being used by servicemen as a base during a military exercise. There were signs warning people using the road not to stray off the carriageway whilst the red flags were flying and we did hear the sounds of firing and were able to see telltale smoke.

For the record we saw quite a few kites but none within camera range.
