Nottingham Castle - £400
...the Castle....the Mayfair of the board! and this pic is only the tip of the iceberg!
The pic is of the Castle Gates. Closed when i turned up there at 5.30pm, and feeling full of cold, i had to stick with it and use this pic as my monopoly pic of the day.
Nottingham Castle is a castle in Nottingham, England. It is located in a commanding position on a natural promontory known as "Castle Rock", with cliffs 130 feet (40 m) high to the south and west. In the Middle Ages it was a major royal fortress and occasional royal residence. In decline by the 16th century, it was largely demolished in 1649, but sufficient fragments remain to give an impression of the layout of the site. A ducal mansion later occupied the summit of the promontory. This was burnt out by rioters in 1831, and later adapted as an art gallery and museum, which remains in use today. to follow this further, see here Nottingham Castle
I think overall i've had 3 visits to the castle, that i can remember. one must've been a school trip, years ago. The second was to watch a Shakespeare play in the grounds of the castle, one September. The 3rd time was a huge work event, when we took over the castle. it was awesome. Fabulous food (the lamb courtesy of Owen Taylor butchers), the speakers, and then a gang of us off into town afterwards (with the Evening Post editor!).
I also remember the 'casualties' the next morning, and also the fact that i'd got an interview booked with Mrs Betteridge that morn....needless to say she got the job! (she'd have got it without the hangover!).
busy busy day at work. but, we still had time for cocktail of the day at Browns.
busy afternoon too, and then off home.
after wamdering down to the Castle, i wander back up after taking photos.
in. healthy fish meal for tea, and reviewing all the old pics of the Castle i can see.
