Into the woods

Off through winding country back roads ascending the forested foot hills two hours south of Portland. Mount Hood and the high peaks of the Cascade Range rising in the distance. Past mown hay fields, derelict small towns, and deeper and deeper into the forested folds of the mountains.

The route; 24 miles backpacking and two nights camp from Opal Creek past the deserted mining camp of Jawbone Flats switch backing up and down to Silver King Lake and following the ridge line back to Gold Mine Creek in a wide loop. How do you like those places names, huh? And it gets even better....

....the Bull of the Woods Wilderness. Here we go.
