Prayers

No trip to Japan would be complete without a visit to a shrine and we managed to fit in quite a few! This one was on the island of Miyajima just south of Hiroshima. Apparently, it was a holy island which mere mortals weren't allowed to set foot on it, so the shrine was positioned so that it jutted out into the sea so that visitors could pay their respects without ever touching land.
