End of Summer
In days gone by schools in England were closed for all of August so that children of farmers and farm workers would be available to help get the harvest in. Even though the children's help was long ago replaced by sophisticated machinery, the time and length of the school break haven’t changed (though there is talk of it) so scenes like this always make me think of the end of August, the end of the holidays and going back to school. This will be my second year of my retirement so now the scene just reminds me that it’s “the end of Summer”. The crops are all gathered, the stubble is in the fields and the yellows and browns herald in the Autumn..............oh and it reminds me that I’m off on my holidays soon!!!
