The New Zealand native Kea
I was getting ready to go and milk this afternoon when I got a phone call from our worker (it was her day off today). She rang to say that she had 5 Kea's on her front lawn, and did I want to take some photo's of them. How could I resist an opportunity like that!
So I left Farmerboy to milk on his own, and rushed to her house. And there they were 'dancing' on her front lawn. She laughed at me when I lay on my stomach on her lawn, getting down to the same level as the Kea's to get that extra special photo.
Kea's are known for their nosiness, and today seeing me lying on the grass made them very inquisitive. They walked around me - I was certainly keeping an eye on where they were, aware that they have very sharp beaks.
Along with the lovely green outer feathers, Kea's have the most spectacular orange feathers which can generally only be seen when they are flying. Hopefully they will be back again, as I would really like to get a photo of one in full flight.
