Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Balboa Island Ferry and Peninsula Fun Zone

Today we decided to take Bob dog for a walk around Balboa Island so we could get our exercise and see the unique and lovely million dollar homes. It's a beautiful day and the temperature has dropped some so it's extremely pleasant weather. The island is a big oblong sort of circle with a sidewalk all the way around. We walked about half way around the perimeter of the island when we knew that Bob dog was wearing out. He was looking for shade and trying to rest in it every chance he could. So when we came to the ferry landing, Mr. Fun said, "Hey, let's ride the ferry across!" Today's photo is taken while on the ferry--it is two clicks of the cheapie camera--just layered (I didn't even make it into a panorama--sorry).

Crossing to the other side seemed like a good idea -- until we got there. That side includes the Fun Zone. We found lots of people, not much shade, and no place to sit. So fairly quickly we rode the next ferry back across to the island. Then Mr. Fun walked to get the car while Bob and I waited in the shade with a cool ocean breeze tickling our faces.

While we were near the Fun Zone. we picked-up some tourist brochures and I was excited to see a Segway tour advertised. Two years ago when we were in Minneapolis/St. Paul we saw a Segway tour storefront, but it was closed so we did not go on the tour. Since then I've said many times "We should have gone on the Segway tour and if I ever find another one, let's do it." So now we've found one. It's a little pricey--ouch--so tomorrow's blip will reveal our decision about whether we decided to go on the tour or not.

Mr. Fun wants to rent a kayak or an electric boat to cruise around all the little islands in this Newport/Balboa channel. He hasn't quite convinced me.

It's been another do-nothing, fun-loving, weather-wonderful, vacation day. We are thoroughly loving being near the ocean.

I continue to say THANKS to all who have commented--we'll be back to commenting when we get home to the convenience of our wireless. Until then, we're thankful for public libraries and at the moment we're in the Huntington Beach Library.

That's our update for this first Friday in August.
