The Sebastopol Inn at Minting
Went here for lunch with a friend and very good it was too. Lovely hot sunny day, lovely ride out to the inn and great food including an apricot clafouti! Very nice.
Minting which is a small village was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Mentingnes and nowadays is both a parish and a scattered village. This inn was simply known as 'the beerhouse' until shortly after the Crimean war (1853-6) when according to local legend a soldier celebrationg his safe return fell into a dyke and drowned. During the inquest the Horncastle Coroner referred to '' This brave infantryman from Sebastopol''. The name stuck!
Parts of the property dates back to the 16th century and there is still a part of the inn where mud and stud , a traditional Lincolnshire construction , was used.
OH and it is haunted!!
