Oooops
Today was an amazing day! This afternoon we drove to Thingvellir National Park to go snorkelling in the fissure between two tectonic plates in Lake Silfra. Since it's a glacial lake the water was only a couple of degrees above freezing, but we had great dry suits so we stayed quite toasty - only our faces ended up totally numb.
I can't even describe how cool it was to be there! The visibility was incredible, apparently the best in the world, at over 100m. You'd be swimming along with the rocks a couple of metres beneath you, then suddenly you found yourself over a huge void, hundreds of metres deep - slightly unnerving and a bit of a shock at times!
I was very organised and bought an underwater camera for the occasion, but unfortunately I dropped it after we'd been in the water for about 30 seconds - disaster! There were honestly some of the best photo opportunities I've seen in a long time, this blip could have been epic. But it wasn't to be, and at least I still have the memories of a fantastic experience.
One of the tour guides did rescue the camera eventually, but we only got it back as we were getting out of the lake, so we took this quick shot.
I recommend using your imagination to pretend that there's an amazing photo of a huge blue fissure up here, and just ignore this blurry photo of my face :)
