The life of a daffodil
I biked today and it could have been worse. It was a bit cold and slightly damp on the way to work but it wasn't too bad. Coming home the wind was still biting but the sun had made an appearance.
As I came through Hagley Park I wondered how battered the daffodils would be. The ones I saw on my way to work in South Hagley are 2-3 weeks in front and they were flattened.
The main lot in North Hagley near the river and hospital are mostly leaning, the odd bent or flattened one, and some seemingly as tall as ever dancing in the wind.
And that is the life of a daffodil; sprout from the bulb, produce a flower that makes people smile, look exceedingly good in the sun, get battered about when winter bites again and eventually gracefully wither and die.
There is a lesson in there somewhere.
A few after thoughts:
- My car has a WOF (warrant of fitness).
- I have accepted a quote for my front path and driveway repairs.
- The mother-ship has cheeks with colour following her transfusion today :-)
- I am humbled and grateful for the many comments and hearts for yesterday's sunrise and my mountain blip 'Pushing on' that earned a staff pick crown this week. Thank you.
