Sutherland Stream Reserve

Early this morning I drove to the eastern end of the Wither Hills Farm Park… to the Redwood Street entry. This entry-way gives access to the tracks leading up towards the high hills with their mountain bike routes and some steep walking tracks. If I am feeling very energetic I will venture up a very steep route and along a spur and onward and upwards to Mount Vernon… a wonderful viewpoint. I haven’t felt quite that energetic for some time. But lighter mornings are coming and so I may get up there to do some blipping.
Adjoining the Farm Park is the Sutherland Stream Reserve. This small stream flows down a valley in the Park from the hill tops above. Often dry in high summer, it can quickly turn into a raging torrent after heavy rain events.
I had forgotten just how lovely the Sutherland Stream Reserve is at this time of the year. It is so green and fresh. This reserve follows the small stream falling gradually downhill away from the Farm Park proper and towards town. There are lovely homes and gardens flanking the reserve on the left in this image. Then the reserve area sweeps across to more open country on the right-hand side. The path meanders through the middle of the grassed areas alongside the stream. It is a designated dog exercise area in that dogs are permitted to be off their leads and running free. (Dogs are also allowed to run free where I walk along the Taylor River Tracks well to the west of town). The Reserve is a peaceful place and enjoyed by many dog walkers.
