Remnants of Rain

It rained last night…. Not much, but every drop was welcome. There were 3 mls in our rain gauge this morning. We have been religiously recording rainfall in our garden for many years now. We got into the habit of doing so way back in the late 1990s during a particularly bad drought. There is a rain record chart secured to the fridge door with fridge magnets. We fill in amounts in pencil and often compare our results with official figures. I admit to having a bit of an obsession about observing the weather probably inherited from my father who taught all of the children in our family much about weather patterns and the environment in general.
Anyway after a cloudy start the sky cleared today and we enjoyed an almost spring-like afternoon.
This image is looking downstream from the “first stepping stones” towards the Omaka Airfield ford. The mountains in the distance are part of the Richmond Range, standing out in vivid ultramarine tones under the remnants of last night’s rain clouds.
