Arundel Wetland Centre
A few days of travelling began with a visit to the Wildlife & Wetland Trust site at Arundel, arriving at around 1410 hr on a warm sunny afternoon. On my first circuit of the Centre I was limited to one camera as the batteries on the other gave out after a couple of shots, but I had a spare set in the car so was up to full strength for the second walk around. There was another minor technical problem in that my new K-50 "remembers" exposure compensation settings after the camera has been switched off, unbeknownst to me, and so I was shooting two stops over and had to do some doctoring when I was processing the shots.
The afternoon included a trip on the Wetlands Discovery Boat Safari. We were likely to see kingfishers, water voles, lapwings and sparrowhawks, apparently. Last week, the boatman had seen fourteen water voles on one boat trip, he said, but on ours we saw none, only a few mallards and moorhens. Nevertheless it was a delightful, relaxing trip. I was at the Centre for about three hours and covered a lot of ground, but would like to return again to explore further.
When I left I soon found myself at the Black Rabbit inn, a pretty pub beside the River Arun, and spent a very enjoyable hour and a half chatting and comparing notes with a couple of people who had noticed me at the WWT earlier.
