Our MP

This is Rory Stewart our MP. He gave a talk this evening in the next village church on 'Afghanistan Rhetoric and Reality'. He is an expert on this as he walked across Afghanistan soon after the Taliban were ejected. He speaks one of the languages and knows the country really well. I think he despairs of how the west has tried to bring about western values of democracy into the county where everything is decided at village level. He was scathing about the foreign agencies that work there but most know nothing of the country other than what they see through the armoured glass of a personnel carrier.

He's a really interesting man. I can't understand why he is a conservative!

Apparently there are as many foreign consultants working in the country as there are western soldiers
