Prestwick World Festival of Flight

This week has seen the return to Prestwick of a flight related festival. This is the 100th anniversary of the first ever landing at Prestwick.

There have been various activities throughout the week which culminate in a static aircraft display on the Apron this Saturday and Sunday. Although only very small beginnings, the organisers hope to bring a full air display to the festival next year. The star of the show this year will be a Catalina Flying Boat on display on Sunday only.

This little Islander plane, used by Hebridean Air Services, has been busy taking people up for a 15-25 minute flight around Prestwick and Ayrshire.

I can remember travelling to the Prestwick Air Show with my father in the late 70’s and early 80’s to watch the Red Arrows and a variety of other display teams and aircraft. Hopefully the full Air Show can be resurrected in coming years.
