Trees (AGAIN)
I love these trees. They've featured in my posts before, both here and on my old Tumblr blog.
They live in the field behind the cottage, leaves and branches intertwined, so you can't see where one stops and the other starts, although they are clearly two separate trees.
This is pretty much what they will have looked like a year ago, when I first moved into the cottage. And over the last twelve months I've watched them, bared branches still wrapped in one another through the freezing heart of winter, first covered in snow and then, later, washed in faint green as their leaves returned in the spring.
On summer's mornings, I've walked out of the back door and thought about taking a day off work, to sit beneath them with a book and a bottle of wine: I wonder which trunk would be comfiest?
And now that's it's nearly time to say goodbye, I take some comfort in knowing that these two will carry on without me, year in and year out. I will still see them from the road and perhaps even sneak back from time to time to visit.
What's more, I'm thinking about doing a bit of planting at the next place: perhaps a couple of small trees, next to one another.
