Owls

It was Clackmannanshire Doors Open Days this weekend so we took the opportunity to go to Gartmorn Dam Country Park, near the village of Fishcross (actually I think you can probably visit the park most days, but we both fancied it from the Doors Open Days leaflet). Gartmorn Dam is Scotland's oldest reservoir, completed in 1713. According to the leaflet, in its time it "provided the power to pump water from mines, turn waterwheels in grain, woollen and other mills and supplied Alloa with fresh water. It is now a nature reserve and country park".

There is a 3 mile circular walk round the lake which is what we did this afternoon. At one point it does go away from the lake a bit, and we were just starting to think we'd taken a wrong turn (which let's face it would have been a bit embarrassing on a circular walk) when we luckily saw the next sign which confirmed we were still on the right path.

On the first bit of the walk away from the Visitors' Centre there were quite a few knitted plants and animals and other creatures adorning some of the trees. I thought this family of owls was cute.

After this we went to the allotment for weeding and harvesting (more giant courgettes, some spuds and more spinach beet). It's amazing how the weeds have really gone for it in the week since I was last there - sigh.
