A walled tiny wood

On the top of the Orton fells it is largely treeless pasture except for this small copse which, at some point in the past has been walled to protect the trees from the sheep. It's quite distinctive.

The environmentalist writer George Monbiot has written several articles and books about how sheep destroy everything. A few weeks ago he wrote that there was more wildlife in Birmingham than in the Lake District. This made even the local paper to comment, supporting the sheep of course.

Addendum -Greg Abbott the Carlisle United manager was sacked today.
