Unicursal Maze
Another dream fulfilled - my brother-in-law took my sister (both over from Texas) and I to see the garden of Morville Hall Dower House, written about so beautifully in Katherine Swift's book, The Morville Hours - which has got to be one of the most insightful and moving books ever written about the making of a garden.
A slightly odd experience, though. Very overgrown and pouring with rain - so we got cold and wet - but lots of beauty - and then given a pot of tea in the kitchen, asked to move away from the Rayburn as Katherine (herself!) was putting the dinner in the oven.
This unicursal maze is at the heart of the garden - an older concept than the puzzle maze. Although you often feel you are moving away from the centre, the actual outcome is never in doubt - quite a spiritual experience, actually.
