Independence

Not quite yet, but another step along the way today as the Scottish Parliament unanimously agreed the general principles of the Independence Referendum (Scotland) bill. The vote tonight meant that it has now completed the stage 1 process of its parliamentary progress.

It was a busy day today and non-stop from about 11:30am till now, which is 00:15. After FMQs I took part in the Convener's Group Committee questioning the First Minister about his government's legislative programme. Then it was a dash straight into the Chamber to take part in the Independence Referendum (Scotland) bill stage 1 debate, which lasted all afternoon. I then made a point of order about the behaviour of the leader of the opposition before we voted on the bill. Then it was a dash to meetings before finally hosting an event in Parliament where Lord Patten, chair of the BBC Trust took questions from MSPs.

After all of that I then packed up and drove to the BBC studios in Glasgow to appear on Newsnight Scotland and I finally got home just before midnight to grab a cup of tea and a sandwich.

Given it is after midnight I suppose this is a backblip.
