Fancy meeting you here!
After another day of driving south, we have found the sun and found the mountains. We are staying the night at Dignes-les-Bains, in an area about 150km north west of Nice and where Provence meets the Alps.
And what should we find? Well done to those who recognised this as the work of Andy Goldsworthy. It is in the Museum in the town and is a whole wall of clay: River of Earth. It is actually only part of a huge project he has been involved with since 1999. The project, Refuges d’Art is a 100mile trail through the landscape of this area. It goes through a largely abandoned region and Goldsworthy and his team have created art installations along the way and inside some of the refuges used by walkers. The trail takes around 10 days and apparently is best done with a guide. So we won’t be doing that this time! The museum devotes a whole floor to photographs and videos of the project. He is a highly regarded artist in the town.
So how is that for dedicated searching out!!
A huge thank you to all those who visited my journal yesterday and left congratulations and lovely messages for my 500th blip. I am replying to everyone, but it is quite tricky at the moment whilst travelling, in terms of time and access to the internet. When we are settled tomorrow in our house in Bonnieux I will catch up with everyone.
