The patio during the evening rain
I had potatoes baking in the oven, the french beans I've grown ready in water to boil gently at the last, moment, the courgettes sliced in garlic and coated in olive oil in a roasting dish and the fish had just gone into the oven as well. I had twenty minutes.
It was 7-30pm and the rain had been falling steadily for at least three hours. I opened the sliding doors onto the patio and placed my camera on the seat of a chair just inside the door, looking out into the gloom and at the flowers I've been growing in these pots, where the french beans are still climbing, flowering profusely and giving us a portion each of beans every evening.
I thought I would just see what happened in the gloom if I let the camera respond. I tried focusing manually in the dark and turned the light in the room out. I took about six exposures and this is the best, with a 13 second exposure. I think it is not very sharp because the rain was moving the leaves so much, which the long exposure has picked up. But I like the colours and it will remind me of the approach of autumn if I come back to look at this at some future date.
Edit:
Last night I left the door of the cabin open by mistake and this morning we found the bird food containers turned upside down and bird food scattered on the floor and outside on the patio.
Having just uploaded this blip tonight, I heard some scratching out in that same area from the window of my study. I knew thee culprit was back and went down to get my flash. I managed to catch a wee glimpse of the rear end of a very wet badger as he scurried down the steps. i shall have to try that again soon too. Helena suggests setting up the cabin as a hide to surprise them!
