The Great Hall

Heritage Open Day Sunday 16th September.
Pouring down with rain outside, but we had planned a visit to Todmorden Town Hall to have a good old 'nosey look' around the inside.

The Great Hall is really magnificent - and could hold 1,000 people in its heyday (although that probably wouldn't be allowed nowadays).
There is a stage at the far end, and the hall was used for concerts and dances for years and years, but the hire charges imposed by Calderdale Council are now quite prohibitive. As a result it lies dormant unless there is a concert/function that can generate enough profit to pay for the hire. That's how wonderful public buildings like this go to rack & ruin :-(
