Autumn Dreaming
All the leaves are brown and the sky is blue
I've been for a walk on a autumn day...
(With apologies to the Mamas and Papas for adapting their lyrics)
Everything is still pretty much lush and green after the recent rainfall, yet you can count on the Horse Chestnut trees to start turning first, giving the first signs of autumn.
Tonight I am hosting book club at my house. Most importantly, I have the Prosecco chilling in the fridge, have bought all the nibbles and finger foods, and generally have got everything ready. Oh yes, the books... I have decided on my short list of books (from which we choose one to read) which is as follows - in case anyone is looking for some reading recommendations
1. May we be forgiven - A. M Homes
2. Almost English - Charlotte Mendelson
3. The Paris Wife - Paula McLain
4. The End of your life Book Club - Will Schwalbe
5. Perfect - Rachel Joyce
Book number 1 has won the Women's Prize for Fiction 2013 (formerly known as the Orange Prize for Fiction) and comes highly recommended, book number 2 was nominated on the long list for the Booker Prize for Fiction and apparently is very readable, book number 3 is about Ernest Hemingway's wife and their story told from her point of view, book number 4 has been a big hit in the US and is a memoir written by a son of his mother who is dying of cancer, and book number 5 is the new book from the author of that brilliant The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.
