The First Step
Today, I started my Gaelic course and despite not knowing a word this morning, I now know enough to go back and do a few lessons with my pupils. It's amazing how quickly things move and how quickly you can really like something you only started doing 12 hours ago!
When we were doing our introductions at the start of the day, I was encouraged to learn that none of us were native speakers (which you can be to do the teaching course as it covers a lot of the methodology for teaching languages) and most of us had little or no Gaelic. It somehow brought as all closer together... in my eyes at least!
This question wasn't the first thing we learnt, that was 'Fáilte', meaning 'welcome' but I wanted to go with this for my Blip as we covered loads of responses to it and played some games that I know I can use in class. 'Ciamar a tha thu?' is the Gaelic for 'How are you?', to which my favourite response that I can remember from the day is 'Tha mi toilichte.' Quick, who can find out its meaning first!
