What makes something special?

I popped into Sainsburys to get the ingredients for Chocolate Malteaser Fridge Cake. Only made for special occasions and valued all the more for it.......

However, in contrast, Sainsburys has just got out the Christmas stock under 'Seasonal' banners. Mince pies piled high. In September! A great example of how we devalue something special through over-commercialisation, excessive consumerism, and starting it 3 months early. Sigh.
