Route 66
Today was mainly a day of travelling to get from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. The highlight of the day was stopping off at two of the old towns on Route 66, which are now largely bypassed by the interstate.
The first was Williams, which was very touristy. It's the base for the Grand Canyon Railway, so there were some impressive old steam trains there.
The second stop was Seligman - a town which has given itself completely over to the Route 66 tourist trade. Quite interesting to see, though a little tacky in places. So many cars with Disney/Pixar Cars style eyes painted on the windscreens. The burger at the Snow Cap was impressive - as were some of the murals on the walls (such as the one in this shot).
Finally to Las Vegas. Urgh. I knew I was unlikely to like the place, but I found it to be even worse than I had imagined. Less said the better...
Flying back tomorrow. It's been a great couple of weeks out here, and it's going to be a real culture shock heading back to work.
