St Nicholas Cathedral

Went for a walk and came across the St Nicholas Cathedral (St Nickoloski) and this is a short version of what I could find out about it.
Built in 1908 in the then town of Verny. It was built from Fir trees and survived the 1911 earthquake. In the years of persecution The St Nicholas cathedral accepted (and sheltered) clergy and monks deported into Kazakhstan (from other parts of the USSR?) Just prior to world War 2, the Archbishops and Archpriests were all arrested and died in prison. The cathedral was closed and used as as a stable for the Bolshevic cavalry. It was Reopened as a Cathedral in 1946.
