Looking up.
Doors Open Day in Glasgow.
Visited the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall, the world's oldest surviving (just) music hall. Fascinating although in quite a state of disrepair.
Next, a visit to St Andrew's Cathedral, the most beautifully light and peaceful place. I loved the lightness. The picture was taken there.
In the developing cloister garden, we met Ralph who explained the memorial garden and sculpture to us and described the sinking of the Arandora Star which carried hundreds of Italians resident in Britain who were being deported during the war to Canada simply for being Italian. His grandfather was one of those men who had been arrested at the age of 59 and sent away. Ironically his children were born in Scotland and had British passports and his sons fought in the British Army so he was seen as a threat but his sons as allies.
The ship was torpedoed just off Ireland and sank with a huge loss
of life. It was known as the 'Forgotten Tragedy'.
Next we visited the Glasgow Gurdwara, the Sikh Temple which was really interesting, welcoming and even included a vegetarian meal.
Now Mr Q is preparing dinner and I am preparing for the new series of Downton!
