Cresswell Crags
Today we ventured for a wander through the picturesque setting of Cresswell Crags' limestone gorge.
Amongst the trees on either side of the lake are caves dating back thousands of years. Here you can see the only known Ice Age engravings carved into the cave walls 13,000 years ago. In the exhibition you can see artifacts found in the caves such as a flint knife blade found in one of the caves dating back 12,500 years. Others included a hyena skull dating back 30,000 years or even a wolf's tooth dating back 80,000 years!
Robin Hood sheltered in these caves, in the now aptly named Robin Hood Cave, hiding from the Sheriff's men!
Today was quite dull so the colours of the now changing trees arent too bright but an outdoor bite to eat at the end of the walk was thoroughly enjoyed.
