An afternoon outing

After what was a chilly/cloudy weekend, spent mostly indoors, the weather cleared just before lunch and we took a drive out to Rietvlei Nature Reserve south of Pretoria

Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis);
Westerly view from the Island view hide as the sun starts to sink;
New viewing platform on the edge of the Marais Dam;
White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum) Both of them dehorned to protect them from poachers. Yesterday was World Rhino Day, and South Africa has already lost 688 of these beautiful animals this year to poaching. A tragic situation.
