Absolutely Aelfgythe'd

It'd late and I'm absolutely Aelfgythe'd! For the uninitiated, Aelfgythe are a Women’s Border Morris side based in Alvechurch. Their name is taken from that of which Alvechurch derived. Tonight, they opened their doors to new recruits - or in their words - anyone who just fancied having a go at clashing sticks and learning their dances! I for one was in!

For a while I've been toying with the idea of giving it a go - our buddy Martin plays a squeezeybox instrument as part of the band (or, as they were referred to " the "Dark -side") and I didn't need much convincing to go along tonight. I'm so glad I did - I have had the most fun I've had in ages.

OK perhaps I'll never be the best dancer in the world (it took a while to get the stick action anywhere near correct, I took a few wrong turns, forgot what was coming next and certainly didn't master something known as "Tree-Tops)- but I recon I could be a contender in the future for the most enthusiastic! And besides, everyone was welcoming, supportive and up for a great big laugh.

I mustn't spend too much longer on this Blip - I desperately need a shower and bed (I'm sure my muscles will ache tomorrow - it's the most exercise I've had in months!)

Watch this space for I'll be returning to Morris Dancing over the next few weeks. Note to self.....a sports bra is a necessary purchase before next practice!
