range upon range upon range

Hubby and I drove up to the mountains today to see how far along the fall colors have come on a popular "leaf peeper" tour (not very far, no wonder there was not much traffic). But we were amazed by this view of the distant mountain ranges.
In the foreground is "open range" for cattle, then you can see the forested hills, and darker foot hills. But what was fascinating was seeing the snow capped Rockies seemingly floating above everything else! At first I thought it was a bank of clouds hanging over the lower mountains, but the little white puff of a cloud gave us perspective.
A wonderful optical illusion!
